What’s in here, and how to find it
Last updated February 25, 2010
A man’s home is his castle, right? Well, I guess that makes me the king here, even if I don’t look or feel like one! But in this case, the whole kingdom is inside the castle (maybe that’s the extent of my jurisdiction). And the castle itself is pretty, uh... weird.
Outside, it looks like an ordinary ranch-style home, with all the rooms on one floor—not much of a castle so far. Walk up to the front door, and a Random Robot appears to greet you with some weird remark like, “Good morning! What would you like to drink: coffee, tea, hot chocolate or Mountain Dew®?”
Finally you regain your composure and walk inside. You’re in a fair-sized front room where people from all over the world can gather without ever seeing each other. (I told you this place was weird.) In this room you can hear the king’s latest musings (for whatever they’re worth), learn about any new rooms that have recently been added to the castle, and see what holidays or observances are approaching (you may know most or even all of them, but anyway, here they are).
At the end of the room there is a long hallway leading to four other rooms: the Orientation Room (you are here), the Family Room, the Cat Room, and the Room With Only Windows (external links). Beyond that are nothing but staircases, all going down.
Follow one of the staircases, and you’ll find yourself in a new front room, different from the one upstairs, and another hallway leading to more rooms. Occasionally you may find more staircases too, all going down to the next level. But you’ll never find yourself more than two levels below the main level.
Despite such simplicity, you will find that there are actually over 400 rooms in this castle! The reason it looks so small on the outside is because nearly all of the rooms are below ground.
In some sections (especially where pages are grouped together by year) you may find links to “Nearby” pages, or Previous or Next pages. Occasionally there may also be links to related pages elsewhere on the site. But that’s it. We never provide so many links that you get lost in them, unlike many other (often larger) sites do.
