Cream together sugar, shortening, and eggs; add vanilla. Mix dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture. Roll out and cut into desired shapes with cookie cutter. Bake in 350° (Fahrenheit) oven for 10 to 12 minutes. Cool completely before frosting.
