In my November 3 post I announced that the Home page had received a slight makeover. The new navigation bar setup still stands, but I believe I have found a better solution for news posts.
Part of the reason for shortening the Home page in the first place was so that it would load more quickly on slow connections (a few people are regularly visiting the site on their cell phones). Although the Home page was shortened by removing the full text of news posts, this may have made some complete posts inaccessible to cell phone users altogether, because they could only be read on the monthly archive pages, some of which are very lengthy! To remedy this, each news post will appear on its own page, retroactive to November 1, 2004. This has the added benefit of simplifying the URLs for posts; http://www.ookingdom.com/newsarchive/2004/11#nov03a is now reduced to http://www.ookingdom.com/newsarchive/2004/11/03a.
I always liked having the latest posts appear on the Home page, so I have gone back to that. But here is the difference: only the latest day’s posts will appear on the Home page. Below that will be links to the previous post and the monthly cover page in the News Archive.
