Joe’s grandpa (my dad) used to put wire baskets around small trees to keep small animals from destroying them, so I followed suit. Unfortunately my efforts were in vain; the tree was already dead. A few weeks later I had to throw away what was left of it.
Joe was sad about this but said it was a small price to pay for the joy of having a cat. Someday we may plant a new tree here to replace this one.
