Doughnuts
Most often, you see it spelled “donuts.” But they taste the same either way.
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup margarine, melted
- 1 cup milk
- 4 cups flour
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Oil for deep frying
Beat eggs until very light. Add sugar; beat until thick and creamy. Add margarine and milk; mix. Sift 3 cups flour with baking powder and salt; add to batter. Add flour to make a soft dough; roll to 1/2 inch thickness. Heat oil to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Cut out doughnuts. Fry 2 or 3 at a time, turning twice, until golden. Drain on paper towels. Makes 2 to 3 dozen.
