The Bible is a Spiritual Book

I was a steady church-goer when I was young. From the time I was four until I was nine, I went to church practically every Sunday. I was considered smart because I could remember the story and the memory verse from one Sunday to the next. But I didn’t really understand the Bible in all its light. If someone asked me what I believed about something, I couldn’t say anything, even though I knew the story of Moses and Daniel and Paul and knew John 3:16 and Psalms 119:11.

I know more Scripture now than I did then. I know more Bible history, too; however, something is different now. I know what I believe about the Lord Jesus Christ and I can understand the Bible. I can take one Scripture and compare it with another to assure myself of the meaning, and then I can apply that meaning to my life and learn to abide by it. However, I found out that it’s not me who is doing this, but God himself. I found Christ when I was thirteen because I asked Him to come into my heart, forgive my sins and save my soul. The Holy Spirit reveals the Bible to me as only a superhuman power can do. Romans 8:5 says “They that are in the flesh do mind the things of the flesh, but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.” Before I was saved I was in the flesh and could not understand the Bible. Now I am after the Spirit, and since the Bible is a spiritual book, I can understand it.
