Friday

We left our house in Janesville at 11:24 a.m., stopped for lunch near New Lisbon, then drove from there to Crossroads College in Rochester, MN, arriving at 4:47 p.m.

I unloaded our stuff into the guest apartment (104). ~ Joe was at work and would finish at 10:30 p.m. We went upstairs to apartment 304, where Elizabeth was; she and Wendi hung out and played on the Wii. ~ I (Charlie) napped in the guest apartment from about 6:22 to 7:52, then joined Wendi and Elizabeth upstairs. Elizabeth cooked up a frozen Tombstone sausage pizza. Wendi and I played a round of Frisbee Golf on the Wii.

Shortly before 10:30, Elizabeth left to pick up Joe from work, leaving me to finish her game of Wii Monopoly with Wendi. When they returned, we visited with them for a while in their apartment and then for a while in our guest apartment. They left at about 1:45 a.m. Wendi and I got to bed at about 2:30.

Saturday

Wendi was up at 8:12; I was up shortly after that. ~ Went for a 4.15-mile run on the bike trails in Rochester, 9:23–10:04. ~ Started up Little Umm (my laptop) which hadn’t been run since May 8; had to do Windows Updates and stuff, which took a while. ~ Showered and then met Wendi, Joe and Elizabeth upstairs shortly after 1:00.

Having Amy’s Blend on National Coffee Day — with Wendi M Petitt and 2 others at Caribou Coffee.
~ Posted at 2:56 p.m.

After that, we stopped at Sam’s Club so Joe and Elizabeth could buy a few groceries; much of it was ingredients for a zucchini dish they want to make for us tomorrow. ~ They bought us pizza in there for an early dinner, shortly after 4:00.

Attended Autumn Ridge Church on Saturday at 5:30 pm. Sermon on grandparents was great.
~ Posted at 8:08 p.m.

After church, there was free chili in the Student Center at the college, so we stopped there for that. ~ Went back to our guest apartment; we watched a DVD from the library, Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time (2003), based on a 1962 sci-fi fantasy novel by Madeleine L’Engle (8:13–10:20). ~ After that, we visited and had a few snacks; Joe and Elizabeth left shortly before midnight. Wendi and I got to bed before 1:00.

Sunday

Up 8:30. ~ Went for a 3.32-mile run on the bike trails in Rochester, 9:35–10:08 a.m. ~ Wendi made sausage, egg and mini-bagels with butter and strawberry jam for breakfast. Joe came down with some “Jamaican Me Crazy” coffee and creamer.

Early in the afternoon Joe and Elizabeth treated us to dinner at Jenpachi Japanese Steakhouse on Rochester’s north side. The Hibachi grill chef was amazing; the food had wonderfully layered flavors and was delicious; the atmosphere was great too. Joe and Elizabeth ordered the Teriyaki Steak; Wendi and I had the Teriyaki Steak and Chicken. Both were served with vegetables (which we gobbled up at the start), miso soup (wonderful), and rice; there was a beautiful lobster sauce to accompany them (the chef called it “yummy sauce,” and boy, was he right). ~ They took a picture of us for our anniversary (this was an early anniversary dinner) and put it into a refrigerator magnet for us. ~ There was strawberry ice cream for dessert, with toppings, made to look like a cake.

Back at the guest apartment, we packed up and loaded the car, then said goodbye to Joe and Elizabeth. We left at 3:22 p.m. and arrived home at 8:47.
