Prayer for Animals

From email — May 10, 2006

A visitor named Cherine from Egypt sent me this message on May 10, 2006:

I like very much your site and I’d like to share with you this prayer:

Hear our humble prayer,
O God,
for our friends, the animals,
especially for animals who are suffering;
for animals who are over-worked,
under-fed, and cruelly treated;
for all wistful creatures in captivity
that beat their wings against bars;
for any who are hunted or lost or deserted
or frightened or hungry;
for all who must be put to death.
We entreat for them all
your mercy and pity;
and for those who deal with them
we ask a heart of compassion
and gentle hands and kindly words.
Make us, ourselves,
to be true friends to animals
and so to share the blessings of the Merciful.

By Dr. Albert Schweitzer (1875–1965)
Theologian and Humanitarian.

Thanks again.
Peace and Joy,
Cherine

I am happy to add this to A Heavenly Ummamum simply because it is good. But apparently this prayer was not actually written by Dr. Albert Schweitzer. For more information, check out this page:
