America Under Attack: Flashback

Friday, September 11, 2009

Eight years ago today, our nation was brutally attacked by terrorists who hijacked four airplanes and crashed them strategically in New York and the District of Columbia; one crashed in Pennsylvania. People in the U.S.—and around the globe as well—were stunned. A month later, the U.S. went to war in Afghanistan, a war that has yet to end.

Poet Steve Ackerman, a good friend of mine, wrote a series of moving poems detailing and commemorating the events of September 11, 2001 and the days that followed. Most were written within days, or even hours, of the attacks. Originally hosted here on The Oo Kingdom, the works now reside at steveackerman.ookingdom.com/attack and include both text and audio recordings. Soon, Steve plans to post videos of the rhymes to bring them to you more vividly. I will keep you informed of any changes.

UPDATE: Steve passed away on January 20, 2013. His websites have been moved to a subdomain of ookingdom.com, to be kept as a memorial in his honor. His YouTube video, America Under Attack, Part 1, is the only video he posted of these poems (there was no Part 2).
