Cotton died in my arms last night while we were sleeping. Woke up to her stiff in my arms.

I’m doing ok, but definitely feeling the loss of my almost 18 year old cat. One of the best friends ever. We grew up together. Missing my love

Shadow, a female cat, lived with us here from 2003 until 2013, when she moved up with Joe and Elizabeth.

Shadow love died tonight. We already miss her so terribly. Spock & Crystal are very good comforters though, which is helpful. Poor things are a bit off as well because they know something is wrong and seem to get that she isn’t coming back. (Posted by Elizabeth Diane Petitt at 9:26 p.m. — feeling heartbroken.)

The cause of Shadow’s death was not clearly known, but the vet said it was likely either kidney failure or feline leukemia. They could have done a pricey procedure ($1,500) to try and save her, but her chances would be slim and she would still be miserable. She was put to sleep by injection sometime around 8 p.m. tonight. Joe said she gave him a knowing look as if to say it was alright and not his fault, and then she said “Roe” (her version of Joe) one last time. Once the injection was administered, Shadow died in Joe’s arms. Both he and Elizabeth were in a bad way. With Cotton and Shadow both gone, only the dog Crystal and the new kitty Spock remain.
