In a previous post I said that I had produced a demo CD in an effort to secure a contract as a singer-songwriter. Well, the CD hasn’t gone into circulation yet because I am still trying to save money to register copyrights on the songs. Beside that, I sorta “put it on the back burner” until after the busy holiday season was over. In addition, I discovered that my recording setup was electronically mismatched, resulting in poor audio quality, and due to that, I must re-record all of my vocals.
Although I am not traditionally one to make New Year’s resolutions, I made two this year: 1) to get into the best physical shape of my life (I’m not far from it right now); and 2) to “get the show on the road” regarding my music. At the dinner table on New Year’s Day I announced that “’06 is my year,” and I didn’t realize until a few days later how true this was—at least if you believe in the numbers and that sort of thing.
Sitting at the Asia Buffet on January 6, I found myself looking at the Chinese Zodiac on the placemat. The year of my birth, 1958 (uh-oh; I just gave away my age), was the Year of the Dog, so that’s my sign in the Chinese Zodiac. But the year just begun, 2006, also falls under that sign (but not until Chinese New Year, on January 29).
After the meal, we read our fortune cookies.
Mine read: You are never given a dream without also being given the power to make it true.
My wife’s read: You will find great contentment in the daily, routine activities.
Normally I do most of the housework (cleaning, cooking, etc.) but if I were to find a career in music, Wendi would have to do it. Was her fortune telling her that she would be happy to take over the housework in that case?
You’ve probably heard of someone having a “golden birthday”—that is, when the day of the month matches his or her age. My son has one coming up this year, on January 17. Of course he will be 17 then. But I discovered that in a strange sort of way, I have one this year also! My birthday is exactly one month later, on February 17. Now let’s forget about February for a moment, and keep counting the days as though it’s still January (or from the first of the year; it’s the same thing). February 1 would then be January 32; February 2 would be January 33, and so on. When you arrive at February 17, you find that it would be January 48 if counted this way. And guess what? I will be 48 this year. So there; it’s my second golden birthday (well, sort of). My first one occurred in 1975.
I said all that to say this: that yes, 2006 is indeed my year, for whatever it’s worth.
