Winter Arrives in Southern Wisconsin

Posted Friday, December 1, 2006

Winter doesn’t necessarily wait until the solstice to make its entrance, especially here in “snow country.” This morning’s snowfall of 22 centimeters (8.7 inches), the first measurable snow of the season, proved that. As recently as this past Tuesday, we basked in 60° warmth! More winter weather lies ahead for us, with low temperatures around 10° and highs in the 20s forecast for the next week, and more snow on the way Sunday or Monday.

Update [January 16, 2007]: The snow was followed by a week of cold weather, with lows near zero a couple of days. An entire month of mild weather came after that, which melted all the snow away. High temperatures varied from 36° to 52° until after the New Year.
